In the second day of the tetralogy “Der Ring des Nibelungen,” Wagner introduces the hero Siegfried, who knows no fear and is therefore entrusted with the ambiguous task of redeeming the world. Amidst evil dwarfs, sleeping dragons, magical helmets, miraculous potions, talking birds and steel-shattering swords, the first case of secret weapons in German history, Wagner tells the mother of all fantasy stories and simultaneously, by inventing a new musical theater, makes a revolutionary critique of the society of his time. <\/span><\/p>\n

Alberto Mattioli was born in Modena in 1969. He writes for “La Stampa,” “Il Foglio,” “QN,” northeastern dailies and “Amadeus.” An opera expert, he has written opera programs or given lectures for major Italian theaters. He is Dramaturg of the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo and director of external relations of the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona. He has written five opera librettos and nine books published by Mondadori, Garzanti and Chiarelettere. <\/span><\/p>\n
