JAZZ ON SIMPHONY
VINCE MENDOZA
JAZZ ON FILM
October 10 and 11 | H 20:30
Auditorium Manzoni
With the Jazz on symphony project, Paolo Fresu inaugurates his artistic direction at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna with an ambitious and visionary idea: to intertwine the vibrant sounds of jazz with the evocative power of symphonic music. A unique event, which celebrates the excellence of the Orchestra of the Municipal Theatre of Bologna, the undisputed protagonist of this initiative capable of combining tradition and innovation. In a city like Bologna, recognised by UNESCO as the Creative City of Music, Jazz Symphony enhances the dialogue between genres and musical languages, drawing new lines of junction between the eclecticism of jazz and the rigour of symphonic music, emphasising the universal value of music as a vehicle of emotion and culture. With unpublished and exclusive productions, designed specifically for the occasion, Jazz Symphony intends to give the public a refined and memorable experience, reaffirming the historical role of the Orchestra and jazz in a city that has made both its beating heart.
The project entrusted to Vince Mendoza presents itself as an event of absolute prestige that pays tribute to jazz music for cinema. Mendoza, a reference figure in the world music scene, is an internationally renowned American composer, conductor and arranger, known for his extraordinary ability to fuse different languages and for his collaborations with artists such as Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock and Björk. Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, he was able to distinguish himself for his mastery in carrying the emotions of the big screen in scores of rare intensity, winning six Grammy Awards and consolidating his name as one of the greatest arrangers of our time. With him at the direction of the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale, the stage will see the participation of two exceptional soloists: Joe Lovano, world icon of the jazz saxophone, and Flavio Boltro, one of the most refined and appreciated trumpeters on the European scene.
