Gaetano Donizetti

L'elisir d'amore - Opera Next

Semi-staged version

In 1832, at the height of his career, Donizetti produces a playful drama that plays with conventions, libretto by Felice Romani. L’elisir d’amore takes advantage of the author’s knowledge gained over the course of his career, in a balanced work between the comic, the sentimental and  the metatheatrical. The playful vein of Donizetti, composed of fresh invention and popular cues, is used here in a plot based on love and misunderstanding.
